Construction Updates Meet the Team - 2024 Q1 March 13, 2024

Many professionals working on the Lilly Lebanon Project live and work in central Indiana. Meet a few team members you’ll see around town.

Dennis Earman

Fluor Health Safety and Environmental Director, LP1 project

Dennis Earman is the Health Safety and Environmental (HSE) Director for the LP1 project.

He has been a leader for Fluor’s HSE team since joining the company seven years ago, serving in many different leadership roles throughout several projects.

What’s the best thing about your job and/or the project?

Helping to build a high-performing construction and HSE team that truly cares about our workforce and sending employees home safely every day. I also enjoy challenging safety professionals to think differently and to understand safety is about doing the right things, not avoiding the wrong things. It should be about creating a psychologically safe environment where everyone feels empowered to speak up and act in the interest of keeping teammates and the environment safe.

Where’s one of the most interesting places you’ve ever worked or visited and why?

I’ve been blessed to visit or work in some beautiful places. The two projects I’ve been on with Fluor that stand out are Puerto Rico during the power restoration after Hurricane Maria and the LNG Canada Project in Kitimat, British Columbia. Puerto Rico is a beautiful island and amid horrific conditions, the people were incredible and cared for our workforce. Kitimat, British Columbia is one of my favorite places on earth now. The mountains surrounding the community and project are magnificent. Working in and around such beautiful environments teeming with wildlife was an experience of a lifetime. And, as with all of my projects with Fluor, it is the people and teams we built and relationships we formed that make them truly special to me.

What do you like to do when you’re not at work?

I like spending time with my wife, Jill and my family, especially our granddaughter, Chloe.

Amy Schroer

Fluor Deputy HSE Director, LP1 project

Amy Schroer first joined Fluor in 2011 as an air operations coordinator in Afghanistan. While there, she joined the HSE team on the project and eventually managed Fluor’s Emergency Operation Center there. Six years later, she returned to the United States as part of the Fluor HSE group working in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria. Prior to joining the LP1 team, she was in Boston working on an infrastructure project.

Schroer’s current job responsibilities at the LP1 site include the onboarding and training of all site personnel, managing HSE programs for hazard mitigation, audits and inspections, incident response and investigations, and many other HSE-related activities.

What’s the best thing about your job and/or the project?

The best part of my job is having the opportunity to be involved with all levels of personnel on the project, from the LP1 site leadership to the craft workers in the field. I believe it is important that everyone, at every level, is engaged with HSE in order to make this a safe and successful project. Fluor has a commitment to creating a psychologically safe work environment built on trust, which I truly support and appreciate.

Where’s one of the most interesting places you’ve ever worked or visited and why?

Afghanistan was definitely an interesting place to work, but one of my favorite places to have visited is Iceland. The diverse landscape was like nothing I had ever seen or experienced before and left an amazing, lasting impression on me.

What do you do when you’re not at work?

I enjoy traveling abroad, taking trips to visit my friends and family, hiking and kayaking, and creating stained-glass art. I’m also an avid home cook and love trying new recipes and techniques.

Bryan King

Project Safety Director, Eli Lilly and Company/Anova

Bryan King started his construction career in 1988 and had a variety of manufacturing and construction jobs before moving into HSE nearly six years ago. In his current role as safety director, he regularly reviews HSE programs and helps ensure all contractors are approved to work onsite.

What’s the best thing about your job and/or the project?

I enjoy working with people from so many backgrounds and with so many levels of expertise. I’m proud to be working on the LP1 project which will positively impact the future of the area.

Where’s one of the most interesting places you’ve ever worked or visited?

I really liked St. Augustine, Florida. I enjoyed learning about the culture and history of the area, like Fort Matanzas, and visiting some great wineries and golf courses there.

What do you like to do when you’re not at work?

I love to golf.
