Project Updates
Our LP1 team members are enjoying getting to know the Lebanon community. Here are a couple of faces you might see out and about around town.
Todd Dando
Fluor Construction Director
You may have seen Fluor’s Construction Director Todd Dando out and about in the community representing the LP1 project. Since first joining Fluor 26 years ago, he’s had a multitude of engineering and project management roles and has worked on assignments both in the United States and abroad. Dando has a home in Lebanon, but travels back to Northern California most weekends where his two children are finishing high school.
What is one of your favorite things about the Lebanon community so far?
As a Purdue graduate, it is great to see so many Boilermakers in the community. Boiler Up!
What is your role with the LP1 project?
I am responsible for the successful delivery of the LP1 Project. This involves coordinating the overall direction of the project and work activities to make sure construction is progressing on time and on budget.
What’s the best thing about your job and/or the project?
Fluor, Lilly and all of our trade partners have committed such talented people to the LP1 project. It is a pleasure to be a part of such a talented team. I also really enjoy seeing the construction plans come to life. It makes all of the hard work worthwhile.
What is one of the most interesting locations you’ve ever worked or visited?
I had a chance to work in Denmark, which was fantastic. The work experience was powerful and taught me so much about our industry and being a part of a multi-cultural team. During that time, my wife and I were newly married and had no kids, so we were able to explore Denmark and the region every weekend.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?
It seems most of my free time is tied up with my kids’ sports. My wife and I have recently come to the realization that we will miss all of the kids’ sports when they are over and are actively looking for replacements. Right now, golf is at the top of my list.
Francisco Irizarry
Fluor Project Manager
Francisco Irizarry started working at Fluor as a field engineer in Puerto Rico nearly 25 years ago. Since then, he’s rotated through several roles in project management and operations. He now oversees Fluor’s Lean initiatives for the LP1 project. While he considers the California Bay area home, Irizarry officially relocated to Carmel, Indiana, last April.
What is one of your favorite things about the Lebanon community so far?
The people here are great. They are warm, open and very genuine. I had a chance to work in Indianapolis on another project for Eli Lilly and Company a few years ago and lived in downtown Indianapolis. While downtown was nice, I find the people here in the suburbs to be a lot more friendly and welcoming. Once I visited the LP1 site, I knew it would be a good project because of the people I met.
What is your role with the LP1 project?
Right now, I specifically work on Lean efforts for Fluor. I implement short range planning and make sure that processes are working efficiently.
What’s the best thing about your job and/or the project?
With my role I help people look at and plan their work in a different way, which can really impact their day-to-day lives. We want our people to be safe, healthy and happy. My role involves listening and planning, which can contribute directly to overall well-being and success.
What is one of the most interesting locations you’ve ever worked or visited?
I worked in Maryland for a time, which was interesting. The summer weather could be nice, but the winter was really harsh. We got 44 inches of snow that year and everything was brought to a halt. I never knew that you could have ice that wouldn’t let you open your doors. I was up at 5:30 a.m. taking pictures of being iced in and sending to the family. It was just crazy! As for visiting, I always love traveling to Europe. I find Barcelona, Spain, to be really interesting. It’s beautiful and I love the history and culture.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?
I love playing golf. I also really enjoy reading and studying astrophysics. I spend a lot of time reading and I’m always into thinking about the why. I like to think about how things were and how they got to be the way they are. I don’t think people really think about why we do things any more. It’s fascinating to me.
